How do I find the key of a song?

Drop the audio file (MP3, WAV, FLAC or AAC) into the finder above. It analyzes the first 90 seconds and shows the musical key, its Camelot number and the keys that mix well with it. No file? Use the Microphone tab and let the song play for about 15 seconds.

How do I find the BPM of a song?

The same analysis returns the tempo, rounded to a whole BPM, since almost all electronic music is produced at whole-number tempos. Very fast or very slow genres can occasionally be read at half or double speed (for example 87 instead of 174 for drum and bass), so check it against your ears.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser using Essentia.js. The file never leaves your computer, so unreleased tracks are safe.

What is a Camelot number?

The Camelot Wheel maps the 24 musical keys onto numbers 1 to 12, with A for minor and B for major. Tracks on the same number or one step away mix harmonically, which is why DJs label their libraries with it.

How accurate is the key detection?

Very accurate on tracks that stay in one key. Songs that change key, or that sit between a minor key and its relative major (A minor and C major share the same notes), can be ambiguous for any detector. In those cases the compatible keys shown still mix well.
