DELAY & REVERB CALCULATOR

Find the perfect delay time for any BPM — in milliseconds, instantly.

Every echo, slap-back and reverb tail sounds tighter when it's locked to your tempo. This free tool converts any BPM into exact delay times and reverb pre-delays in milliseconds — for every rhythmic subdivision (straight, dotted and triplet). Copy a value and paste it straight into your DAW or hardware.

What is Delay Sync and Why Does It Matter?

When a delay isn't synced to the track's BPM, the echo lands off the grid — it smears the groove and makes everything feel sloppy. Professional producers always sync their delay and reverb times to the tempo so every repeat reinforces the rhythm instead of fighting it.

The math is simple. The base delay time is found by dividing 60,000 ms by the BPM — that value is one quarter note (1/4):

delay (ms) = 60000 ÷ BPM

Every other value — 1/8, 1/16, 1/2, dotted notes and triplets — is derived from that base. Dotted notes multiply by 1.5; triplets multiply by 2/3.

It's essential in DAWs like Ableton, FL Studio, Logic and Pro Tools whenever a plugin has no auto-sync, and DJs use it to dial delays into analog gear without MIDI sync. Artists like Deadmau5, Eric Prydz and most technical electronic producers build entire records around tempo-synced delays as a lead element.

Delay Times (ms)

Straight, dotted and triplet subdivisions for your tempo.

Reverb Pre-delay (ms)

Pre-delay adds space between the dry signal and the reverb tail. Common values are short subdivisions of your BPM.

Frequency Equivalents

The Hz value of each note — useful for setting tempo-synced filters, LFOs and tremolo rates.

How To Use These Values

Where to type the millisecond value in each program.

Ableton Live

In Simple Delay / Filter Delay, turn OFF "Sync" and switch the time mode to ms, then enter the value. For Reverb, paste the pre-delay value into the "Predelay" field.

FL Studio

In Fruity Delay 3, set the "Time" knob mode to milliseconds (right-click → Set value) and type the ms. Use the pre-delay value in Fruity Reeverb 2 → "Predelay".

Logic Pro

In Tape Delay or Stereo Delay, disable "Tempo Sync" and enter the delay time in ms. For ChromaVerb/Space Designer, set the Pre-Delay value.

Pro Tools

In stock or third-party delays (e.g. Mod Delay III, EchoBoy), switch to free/ms mode and type the value. Reverb plugins like D-Verb take the pre-delay in ms.

Pioneer DJ (CDJ / DJM)

On the DJM Beat FX with no auto-sync, or on analog send-FX units, dial the delay time knob to match the ms value to keep echoes locked to the track tempo.
