The Note Audio has released True Panner, a free spatial-imaging plugin for macOS and Windows (VST3, AU, AAX). It's permanently free — no license or account activation is required to keep using it after download.
Instead of the usual level-based panning, True Panner uses ITD (interaural time difference) — tiny timing offsets between the left and right channels — to place sounds in the stereo field. It bundles Balance, Dual Pan, Width, Time Pan and Spread controls around a real-time stereo visualizer, so you can see the field you're shaping instead of guessing from the meters.
Timing-based panning tends to sit more naturally in a mix than gain panning, especially on leads and vocal chops that need to move without thinning out. Worth a place in the chain the next time a two-bar synth stab needs to breathe without losing center-image punch on a club system.
