If you are buying or finishing a tech house track this week, aim for 128-132 BPM. That range holds 77 of the 100 tracks on Beatport's Tech House Top 100 today. 130 BPM is the most common tempo with 26 tracks, followed by 128 with 21. At No. 1 is 'DANGER DANGER', a collaboration between Solomun, Skepta and Dom Dolla on Three Six Zero Recordings.
What the numbers say
- Tempo: 65 tracks sit between 128 and 131 BPM, the same count GPW recorded for that range on October 5. Only three tracks go above 132 BPM.
- Key: the chart splits almost evenly, 54 minor to 46 major. D minor is the most common key, with eight tracks.
- Labels: Hellbent Records has 10 places, and seven of them feature Cloonee. Diynamic has five and CircoLoco Records four.
- Freshness: 34 tracks came out in October, 12 of them on October 23. Three of those 12 are already in the top 10: Jay de Lys, HILLS (US) and Bontan. At the same time, 29 tracks came out before July, so older records keep selling.
- Beatport exclusives: 19 of the 100 are flagged as exclusive to the store, including 'In Europe' at No. 7.
For buyers
A 128-130 BPM groove in either a major or minor key fits the bulk of this chart. Release timing clearly matters: last Friday's releases went straight into the top 10. The tight tempo band also makes a track easy to mix for the DJs who buy from this chart. To shortlist one in that range, browse our exclusive Tech House tracks for sale.
For producers
Write at 128-130 BPM and keep the arrangement DJ-friendly. Six of the top 10 are extended mixes. A big-name label helps but is not required: RWorks, Trick and Hellbent all have tracks in the top 10.
