Watch the trailer below and listen closely: the French duo Justice are writing the original dynamic score for Grand Theft Auto VI, which arrives in November. Rockstar Games confirmed the news with a new trailer released on October 15, shot entirely in-game on PlayStation 5.
The trailer runs on 'Flower in a Hurricane', a standalone Justice single with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. It sits on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the official soundtrack that has been rolling out as a string of collaborative singles. Earlier drops included a Travis Scott track produced by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, plus releases featuring Fred again.., PinkPantheress and Etienne de Crécy. Rockstar says the full score will be released soon.
For producers, this shows how much room games now give electronic artists. A dynamic score has to react to the player in real time, so it is written as layers and stems, not fixed tracks. Electronic producers already think this way, and the biggest game launch of the year has just handed that job to a dance act.
