Jeff Mills Opens the Vaults: 'Gamma Rays' EP of Four Unreleased '90s Techno Tracks Lands Oct 30

Techno DJs get a fresh dig into the archive on Friday, October 30: Jeff Mills will release Gamma Rays, an EP of four tracks he recorded in the 1990s and never put out. He confirmed the date on Instagram alongside a short audio preview. The track names and the releasing label have not been announced yet, so keep an eye on his channels if you want it on day one.

Unheard material from that decade is rare, and it is the period that defined Mills. After co-founding Underground Resistance with Mike Banks, he launched Axis Records in 1992 and released records such as 'The Bells' that are still played in clubs today.

The EP arrives in a crowded autumn for the Detroit pioneer: he premiered a Rembrandt-inspired film at ADE, issued spatial-audio live recordings from New York's Knockdown Center, and has 'The Forbidden Planet', a project with Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, due on Axis in November.

For producers, it is another sign that raw, machine-driven '90s techno still has a market. If that is the sound you play, browse our exclusive Techno tracks for sale.
