If you make or buy club-leaning house, Cloonee's debut album is worth a full listen for what a headline tech house artist chooses to put on a record: 'Are You Still You?' came out on October 9 with 16 tracks, through Good Music For Bad People (powered by co:brand) alongside his own Hellbent Records, and it is on Beatport.
The focus track is 'Paradise' with Chris Lake. The guest list is wide: Prospa, Gale, SOSA, Fallon, TocaDisco, Ranger Trucco, Joseph Capriati, Chris Lorenzo, and Yandel and ATLAC on 'Movimiento'. Two earlier Prospa collaborations lead the run-up. 'Good Girl' reportedly passed 1.5 million streams in its first week, and 'Free Your Mind' reached No. 10 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
For a producer, the takeaway is the range, from peak-time tech house to Latin-flavoured and techno-leaning cuts, on one release. For an artist looking for material, it shows that vocal-led, crossover-friendly tracks are what a top act is building a first album around.
