If Cevin Fisher's records are not already in your crate, this is the week to dig them out: 'The Freaks Come Out', released under his Big Freak alias in the late '90s, and 1999's '(You Got Me) Burnin' Up' both crossed over into the UK charts.
The New Jersey house DJ and producer died peacefully on October 29, aged 63, after a brief battle with cancer, his family said in a statement.
Born in East Orange, Fisher started DJing in his father's bar and landed his first residency at 17 at Club Zanzibar. In New York he engineered at Arthur Baker's Shakedown Studio and worked with Motown, remixing Chaka Khan and Quincy Jones, including the Billboard Dance No. 1 'I'll Be Good to You'. Encouraged by Danny Tenaglia to produce his own music, he later released on Strictly Rhythm, Nervous, Toolroom and Glasgow Underground, and recently teamed up with Tenaglia on 'Move That Body'.
Louie Vega, Ultra Naté and Toolroom founder Mark Knight were among those paying tribute. His records are part of the foundation that today's exclusive House tracks for sale are built on.
