Berlin District Signs Interim Lease to Keep RAW-Gelände's Clubs Open

Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district assembly approved an interim lease for RAW-Gelände's Soziokulturelle L on September 9, 2026, taking over as general tenant from the site's private landlord and ending months of uncertainty over one of Berlin's most important club and cultural areas, home to Cassiopeia and its summer garden among other venues.

The two-year deal is backed by €2 million in public funding for operations and overdue building maintenance, with a further €1 million set aside by the Berlin state for a possible third year. "This is an important step for RAW and for Berlin. Clubs, youth work and educational projects can finally plan again," said Berlin Club Commission spokesperson Emiko Gejic.

For a scene that keeps losing rooms to redevelopment, this is a rare case of a city choosing to keep the floor open — good news for anyone still building sets around Berlin's exclusive Techno tracks for sale.
